A lot of medical condition nowadays springs from a bad lifestyle and eating unhealthy foods. Foods that contain fats are the ones that we usually avoid because of the health risks that they bring. Fats also have benefits. It assists in nutrient absorption and nerve transmission but if consumed in excessive amounts, can be a health risk. Bad fats or what they call trans fat should be avoided. It is usually found in commercially packaged food products.

Bad fat is not good for your body since it increases the cholesterol level in the body. This kind of fat contributes to the development of certain medical conditions such as hypertension, heart disease and diabetes. There are things you can do to skip bad fats. Check the label of food products before buying them. Many products may indicate 0% trans fat on the label, but make sure it is really trans fat free. Avoid cooking oils that are high in saturated fat. And as much as possible, minimize using commercially packaged foods and try organic food instead or look for trans fat-free alternatives.

The Super Fruity Power – Mr. Fruitness

Posted by: Admin  :  Category: Health News

In 2006, the European Union, together with CSO, which stands for Centro Servizi Ortofrutticoli and the Italian government devised a project that is intended to encourage children and parents to consume more fruit. The project has run so well and has accomplished so much in its first three years that the founders decided to fund the project for another three years until the year 2012. This project is called “Fruitness, Enjoy It!” The mascot for this project is Mr. Fruitness, the green costumed super hero. As the mascot of the project, Mr. Fruitness has a super fruity power that he gets from consuming fruit, whilst fighting against obesity and junk food that is really bad for the body.

The campaign is very unique because it is intended for parents and their children. The project’s web site is called http://www.fruitness.eu. On the website, children and parents can find entertainment such as games that they can enjoy together. Children can even make an avatar of themselves to interact with Mr Fruitness. The avatar can be chosen to be shaped like a plum, pear, kiwi, peach or nectarine. The four fruits are the fruit that is encouraged to be consumed in the campaign. The website is colourful and very dynamic; children will love to have fun with the features they can find on the site. Without them realising it, children learn the importance of consuming fruits and staying away from junk food. It can be a great tool for educating children. Mr. Fruitness is keeping them healthy and happy at the same time.

Whey Protein and Supplements

Posted by: Admin  :  Category: Health News

It is in the interest of every person to take supplements to help your body to cope with the day-to-day demands of modern living. These supplements are not necessarily cheap supplements, as the market for supplements is so big that the prices can become exorbitant.

The same goes for people who are following strenuous exercise regimes and need to give their bodies a daily supplement of protein to help repair torn muscle tissue, to build new muscles and to help reduce the risk of muscle damage.

Whey protein is not among the cheap supplements category, as it takes a very specific and scientific process to produce the supplement. However, it is also not the most expensive supplement. It is affordably priced so that everyone can make the effort to obtain it and have the advantage of its numerous benefits.

Along with your daily supplement make sure that you take your protein.

10 States with the Highest Infant Mortality Rates in America

Posted by: Admin  :  Category: Health News

Some states are part of rather unfortunate statistics. This particular list encompasses those states that unfortunately have a very high infant mortality rate, and many are trying to figure out just why that is.
1.Mississippi: It’s not a good place to be, but this state ranks at the top for infant mortality rates in the country. It’s a very sad statistic to be at the top of, but the numbers speak for themselves and over one in ten babies will be a part of this terribly unfortunate and sad statistic.

2.Louisiana: People used to say that it was quality of life that contributed to this fact, but that’s not necessarily the case anymore. Though when you look at a state such as this, there are still plenty of small towns with perhaps lesser medical facilities than in large cities. Whatever the reason, this state holds to a top position on a very dismal list.

3.South Carolina: The rate is high and state officials want to figure out why that is. Whatever the reason, this is a fact and a statistic that medical and government officials alike want to get a handle on. Hopefully they are successful so that nobody has to suffer through another terrible tragedy.

4.Alabama: It’s often difficult to figure out why a state suffers more infant mortality than other, but whatever the reason certain states seem to make the list year after year. This state seems to make an appearance quite often, much to the dismay of parents all over.

5.Delaware: Many medical facilities in states on this list such as this are doing their very best to protect patients and families alike to ensure that they don’t have to suffer through these tragedies anymore. With more education and resources, hopefully this list will dwindle down on its incidents of deaths.

6.Tennessee: There doesn’t seem to be any one identifiable reason as to why more infants are dying in these states, but much work is being done to figure it out. Though the information can’t come soon enough, this can make a big difference in the lives of those who could potentially suffer from it.

7.North Carolina: Infants in states such as these can pass away for any number of reasons. A state such as this may make the list if infants are dying during labor and delivery or even within the first year. There is a great deal of research that studies the trends and just why they could be happening.

8.Ohio : The more education comes out the better the chances of survival for these infants. Though too many families have suffered, the hope is that with more education comes less of an infant mortality rate overall. This would be welcome news to the medical community and to parents alike.

9.Georgia: Even with big city life and excellent medical facilities, some states make the list such as this one. In spite of the best efforts, some states just have this statistic and are fighting desperately to keep themselves away from it. This is not a list that you want to ever be a part of.

10.West Virginia: With many small towns and perhaps smaller medical facilities, states such as these aren’t often a surprise to make the list. However much is being done to protect the infant mortality rate from rising and to bring it down in the process. This is a lengthy process but those that live in the state are hopeful that it will happen.

Infant mortality is something that nobody likes to think about. However if you can learn from the sad incidents in the past, hopefully you can make progress.
